Tips to Keep Kids Safe and Healthy During Sick Season
Ahh, sick season. It’s that time of year when the sniffles, sneezes, and coughs seem to come out of nowhere…all the time. As parents, we totally get how hard it is to keep your little ones healthy during this time of year. But don’t worry! We’ve got some simple, easy tips to help keep your tiny people safe and healthy all season long. After all, at Tiny People University, we consider your kiddos part of our family, and we want to help make sure they stay happy and healthy.
Safe and Healthy Tips To Try:
Healthy Kid Tip #1 – Wash Those Tiny Hands
Seriously, hand-washing is the MVP of the season. Kids touch EVERYTHING, and we all know where those little hands go next! Trust us, a good hand-wash is the first line of defense against all those nasty germs floating around. Keeping those hands clean not only helps protect your little ones from getting sick but also keeps the whole family safe and healthy. A simple wash can make a huge difference, so make it a fun, regular habit. We know our little ones aren’t always thrilled about washing their hands (again and again, and again!), so get them excited about it! Let them pick out a fun soap or cute dispenser and watch how much more likely they are to wash up if they love the soap. And don’t forget to scrub for a good 20 seconds, folks!
Healthy Kid Tip #2 – Vitamin C to the Rescue
We know your little one loves a good snack (who doesn’t?). But when sick season hits, it’s the perfect time to sneak in some immune-boosting foods. Think fresh fruits like oranges, berries, kiwis, and apples—loaded with vitamin C to keep those colds in check.
Now, if your little one is a picky eater (aren’t they all at some point?), try making those fruits extra fun. You can turn them into a colorful fruit salad, create fruit kabobs, and, of course, cut fruits in super-fun shapes. If they’re really not into the whole fruit thing, try smoothies! Toss in some spinach or yogurt along with those immune-boosting fruits—it’s a sneaky way to pack in the nutrients without them even noticing.
Healthy Kid Tip #3 – Rest Up
Kids need sleep. Like, a lot of it. That’s because when your little one gets enough rest, their immune system is all charged up and ready to fight off any bugs. When kids don’t get enough sleep, their immune systems can take a huge hit. That’s why we make nap time a priority at Tiny People University. Rest is when the body does its best work to fight off all those germs, so make sure your little one has a solid bedtime routine. Try to keep the same sleep schedule every night, and watch your kiddo wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world—germs beware!
Healthy Kid Tip #4 – Disinfect Regularly
At Tiny People University, we disinfect toys, surfaces, and high-touch areas all day long to keep the germs at bay. You can do the same at home by wiping down light switches, door handles, and toys that get lots of love. And if your child has a favorite stuffed animal or blanket? Give those a quick wash every now and then. Clean spaces = less chance for germs to spread!
Healthy Kid Tip #5 – Sharing Isn’t Always Caring
We always encourage sharing amongst littles—sharing toys, smiles, and hugs are all part of the fun. But when it comes to germs, sometimes sharing is definitely not caring! Encourage your little one to enjoy their own snack, drink, and utensils instead of passing them around. A little reminder goes a long way in keeping everyone safe and healthy—because while sharing is great, germs are not!
Keeping Your Kids Safe and Healthy All Season Long
Sick season might feel like a never-ending cycle of sniffles and coughs, but with a little extra care and some simple steps, you can help keep your little ones safe and healthy all season long. Whether it’s washing those tiny hands, sneaking in immunity-boosting snacks, or making sure they get enough rest, every little thing counts.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and let’s make it through this season together with a lot of love and a lot fewer germs!
